Reem Talhouk

Biography

Reem Talhouk is an Assistant Professor in Design and Global Development at Northumbria University, where she also co-leads the ‘Design Feminisims’ and ‘MARGINALITIES’ research groups.

Reem contributes to teaching in Interaction Design, Communication Design and Multi-Disciplinary Innovation. She has also delivered teaching on the DCitizens Summer School and the Participatory Design Summer School. She has contributed chapters to several educational handbooks, including the Handbook on Humanitarian Inequality and the Handbook of Contemporary Participatory Design.

Reem has led research at the intersection of design, technologies, and global development. She has conducted research with refugees, activists and humanitarians, and focused on the interplay between sociotechnical systems, digital civics, ontological security and mechanisms of oppression and resistance.
