Catarina G. Fidalgo

Biography

Catarina is a fifth-year PhD student at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute from Carnegie Mellon University, and at the Computer Science and Engineering Department from Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon. She is part of the CMU Portugal Dual Degree PhD Program in Human-Computer Interaction, under the supervision of Prof. David Lindlbauer and Prof. Augusto Esteves. Catarina earned her Integrated MSc. in Aerospace Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2020 with a specialization in Avionics and Control Systems.

Her work at ITI/LARSyS focuses on enabling efficient collaboration and training through Extended Reality by leveraging different mechanisms to maintain awareness between people, with oneself, and in interaction with intelligent agents. Catarina’s ongoing research includes projects centered around designing novel interaction techniques that enhance workspace awareness, improve feedback mechanisms for actions performed in virtual spaces, and optimize user experience in Collaborative and Training scenarios.
