Décio Alves
Biography
Décio Alves holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Universidade Aberta. Following this, he pursued a post-graduation in Civil Protection, a joint program between Universidade Aberta and Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco. His academic journey continued with a Master’s in Environmental Engineering from Universidad Europea del Atlántico. Currently, Décio is a Superior Technician at Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P.
In addition to his current role, Décio is pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at Universidade da Madeira. His research, “Very Short-Range Forecasting of Wind Speed and Direction for Air Traffic Operations at Madeira Airport,” aims to leverage machine learning techniques to model and forecast wind at complex terrains. Specifically, the focus is on areas like Madeira Airport to potentially improve air traffic weather information. Décio’s research interests are rooted in environmental engineering and the application of machine learning in diverse fields.
