Biography

Fabio de Almeida is a designer and researcher with a postgraduate degree in Creative Media from the University of the Arts London and a Master’s in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts (University of Lisbon). He has extensive experience as a creative director and design lead in agencies, developing award-winning solutions for both government and corporate clients. Eight years ago, he co-founded a startup focused on R&D in creative data and AI.

During his Master’s, he explored speculative design in data technologies, working with interactive design, digital storytelling, world-building, and critical creative practices in NLP and Generative AI. In his intended PhD research, he plans to apply speculative and participatory design practices grounded in posthumanist, feminist, and decolonial theories. His work aims to establish new sociotechnical imaginaries and frameworks that value human and non-human interactions in processes of community self-determination and local governance.
