Biography

Fernando Carvalho (2000, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian multimedia artist affiliated as a research collaborator in the Artistic Studies Research Centre (CIEBA) and the ITI / LARSYS – Interactive Technologies Institute. He is pursuing a master’s degree in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication – Design from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
His practice combines contemporary technologies, such as photogrammetry, video games, virtual and augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, to question the very use of these tools in society. One’s recent work include the article “Glitch Cartographies: Reconfiguring Memory and Territory in Virtual Reality” and a masters thesis that investigates how digital platforms and AI shape the visibility of Costa de Caparica, erasing certain margins, and how art can reconstruct this territory through lived experience.
