Rubina Castro

Biography

Rubina Castro (she/her) is a PhD researcher at the University of Madeira, affiliated with the Interactive Technologies Institute/LARSyS. Her academic training and research path are focused on Artificial Intelligence, optimization, and autonomous robotic systems. She is currently developing her doctoral work with the support of an ARDITI scholarship.

Her thesis investigates advanced optimization and control-based algorithms for collision-free navigation in cluttered underwater environments, addressing challenges such as path planning, obstacle avoidance, trajectory smoothness, and robustness, with applications in mapping, inspection, and marine monitoring.
