Communications Manager
As Communications Manager, your primary role is to execute successfully the operation and delivery of the communication function within ITI. You will develop creative and timely content from ITI’s research (domestic and international) and other strategic projects. You will work closely with researchers, the board, and staff to understand the audiences they want to reach and maximize impact. You will collaborate with the central communications at IST to guarantee consistency and alignment with the other research teams. We expect you to be a doer. You’ll report to ITI’s executive director as part of the staff team.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Content Planning and Delivery – 50%
- Envision, develop, and implement an effective and comprehensive long-term communications strategy in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Develop benchmark criteria and track and evaluate the effectiveness of content strategies.
- Develop and advance ITI’s voice and brand integrity across all platforms and media.
- Create communications and news content, including web and media relations tools.
- Create and advance the ITI’s comprehensive editorial calendar and content delivery for the ITI’s projects.
- Analyze and report on audience definition and engagement, marketing performance, brand coverage, and positioning.
- Work with partners to develop and position stories.
Social Media and Digital Engagement – 20%
- Create a social media strategy with an emphasis on audience growth and development.
- Create all social media and marketing content.
- Create digital metrics reporting and analytics.
- Manage strategic content performance and tools development.
- Ensure brand visual and voice consistency across all social media channels.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to generate ideas to drive inbound traffic and organic and paid engagement for digital channels.
- Monitor social channels in real time for both engagement and quality assurance.
Brand, Outreach, and Media Relations – 15%
- Develop and execute a comprehensive brand management strategy, including online and direct marketing and media relations.
- Contribute to media relations efforts by identifying compelling or stakeholder-valued media placement opportunities; creating and maintaining relationships in media; developing and producing media advisories and press releases; and helping to coordinate media availabilities, interviews, public speaking opportunities, and other opportunities for external exposure.
- Provide consultation and advice to program leadership on various strategic and communications needs.
Event planning and organization (10%)
- Support and coverage of all ITI-related events through reporting and photographic coverage.
- Support in developing the annual event with other IST-ID research units.
- Support in set up and event development.
Initiative and availability to develop off-site events Support in annual reporting and evaluation process (5%)
- Support the preparation of materials and data collection for yearly reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading skills.
– Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
-Displays a working knowledge of social media tools (i.e., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) and monitoring and reporting services.
– Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Google Analytics.
– Knowledge of national print, broadcast, and electronic media outlets and social networking, including web-based and online media/information sites.
– Stays informed of industry best practices for performance reporting and relevant online tools.
– Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal direction, meet deadlines, think critically and creatively, and exercise sound judgment.
– Ability to build collaborative working relationships and identify, assess, and meet diverse needs (including students, researchers, faculty, and staff).

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Five years of related experience.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Fluency in Portuguese (written and spoken)
Job Location:
● You will be located at Beato Innovation District in East Lisbon and must perform your role on-site.
