Gaming Startup Retreat 2024
The second edition of the Gaming Startup Retreat, organised by Startup Madeira as part of the eGames Lab consortium, which includes the Interactive Technologies Institute, is set to kick off on February 19. This unique acceleration program, developed in partnership with the NOVA School of Business and Economics, aims to foster innovation and collaboration within the gaming and creative industries.
The eGames Industry’s Booming Growth
The eGames industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, with more than 2.5 billion people worldwide regularly engaging in gaming activities. Predictions indicate that annual global gaming revenue will surpass earnings from worldwide film box office, music streaming, album sales, and the top five sports leagues combined. The eGames Lab Project, spanning from Évora to Lisbon, Madeira, and the Azores, addresses specific technological and operational challenges identified in Portugal. By doing so, it aims to enhance the competitiveness of its members and position them on the global stage. Through this initiative, Portugal seeks to diversify its economic fabric, traditionally reliant on tourism, and increase competitiveness in IT and Web 3.0 industries. The next step of the eGames agenda is precisely the Gaming Startup Retreat.
Gaming Startup Retreat: A Platform for Innovation
The Gaming Startup Retreat, now in its second edition, gathers ten promising startups within the gaming and creative industries for a six-week acceleration program. The selected startups will relocate to Madeira Island, Portugal, where they will work, collaborate, and exchange knowledge and experiences.
The agenda for the 2024 edition includes a mix of intensive networking events, training, workshops, and leisure opportunities against the backdrop of the stunning Madeira Island. The program is designed to enhance company culture, promote networking, and offer valuable growth opportunities for the participating startups. The 12 selected gaming startups come from diverse corners of the globe, showcasing the international scope of the Gaming Startup Retreat. The retreat will also host over 25 entrepreneurs, experts, and industry players from various countries who will mentor and boost the startup’s development.
The six-week program is packed with educational and mentoring moments, covering topics such as strategy, business diagnosis, game design, marketing plans, venture capital, and more. The schedule is tailored to provide startups with a comprehensive understanding of the gaming industry and enhance their skills.
The retreat will conclude with a Pitch Rehearsal during the final week, where startups will present their projects and future plans. This culmination aims to showcase the growth and development achieved during the program.
The Gaming Startup Retreat is not just an acceleration program; it’s an opportunity for startups to refine their strategies, engage with industry leaders, and make a lasting impact in the ever-evolving eGames landscape. The retreat’s unique combination of education, mentorship, and leisure sets it apart, offering an unparalleled experience for the participants.
