Biography

João Afonso completed his bachelor’s and master’s Degree both in Biomedical Engineering in 2022 and 2024, respectively, from Instituto Superior Técnico. Currently works as a Contracted Researcher in ITI/LARSyS.

His research focuses on the automation of retinal structure identification and classification using Artificial Intelligence, as well as the manual visualization and delineation of these structures through Virtual Reality, reducing clinician’s workload and improving patient’s benefits.
