Sónia Matos
Biography
Sónia Matos is an associate professor of transformation-engaged design research at the Faculty of Design and Art, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (unibz). In her research she explores design theory, approaches, and methods for engaging communities and audiences in visions and processes of eco-social transformation with a specific focus on children and youth.
She is a research collaborator at the Interactive Technologies Institute and was the Principal Investigator of Field Guide and Sense and Sensibility in Interactivity, both funded by FCT and developed in collaboration with The Azorean Biodiversity Group at the University of the Azores.
At unibz, she leads the trans-form research cluster and serves as a Research Ethics Committee member. She is also the Principal Investigator of Playground: Designing Visions of Play in a More-than-Human-World, funded by unibz’s start-up grant, and co-PI of HERE: Heritage Education: Enhancing Citizenship in a Shaped-by-Diversity Region, developed in collaboration with the Competence Centre for School Inclusion, funded by unibz’s Interdisciplinary Research project fund.
Past affiliations include the Art, Culture and Technology program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), School of Architecture and Planning.
