Biography

Zhiming Liu (she/her) is a PhD student in Digital Media at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and is affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University through the doctoral program. She holds an MA in Design from Tianjin University and a BA in Environmental Design from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
At the Interactive Technologies Institute, her research focuses on human-centered design and human agency in AI-driven services. Building on her work with gig workers, she studies how automation shapes workers’ choices and everyday experiences. Through fieldwork and participatory co-design, she aims to develop tools and service concepts that give workers a stronger voice in shaping more transparent and equitable platform systems.
